An Abu Sayyaf member was allegedly killed after an encounter with authorities in the town of Sibuco, Zamboanga del Norte early Wednesday morning.

According to the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group, Jupuri Dais exchanged gunfire after authorities handed over the arrest warrant to him in connection with the kidnap for ransom and serious illegal detention case.

Authorities recovered a .45 caliber gun, ammunition and a magazine from the deceased suspect.

Dais was a former member of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) before moving to the Abu Sayyaf.

He was allegedly involved in the abduction of a Martina Yee in 2016, the Duterte couple in 2017, and the Ruda couple and Javier family in 2018. All the victims were released after their families provided ransom.

Based on the information gathered by the PNP-AKG, the slain suspect has been on the lookout for prospective victims in Sibuco. - Report by Gracie Rutao
