Community pantry organizer in Davao City, tested positive for COVID-19

One of the organizers of the community pantry in Davao City tested positive for COVID-19, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said in an interview with Davao City Disaster Radio, Monday afternoon.

“One of the organizers of the community pantry here in Davao City is already in the hospital who is COVID-19 critical,” the mayor said.

Duterte-Carpio allegedly noticed that the distribution system in community pantries is not safe “because the primary feature of COVID is person to person.”

The mayor could not provide further information regarding the positive community pantry organizer in the city.

Davao City has also issued an executive order banning all non-essential government activities until August 31, 2021.

These include face-to-face inauguration, anniversary, thanksgiving, ribbon-cutting, blessing, turnover, groundbreaking activity, launching program, banquet, birthday, press conference, oath-taking program, photo opportunity, retirement honors, welcome honors, testimonial program, and summer outing.

Encouraged to just do it online.

According to the mayor, contact tracing appears to have tested positive for COVID-19 after attending government events.

Gatherings are also prohibited if there is a distribution of food or any aid if it is not connected to disaster and emergency activities. He said it should only be distributed house-to-house.

According to the Department of Health XI, there are 1,037 active cases of COVID-19 in Davao City, and 735 deaths.
