Two suspected members of a crime group died after being shot by police in Barangay Inarawan, Antipolo City on Thursday.
Two men on a motorcycle without a plate number were passing by a checkpoint on Marcos Highway around 5 a.m., according to the police investigation.
They allegedly avoided the checkpoint and fired a gun, so the police also fired.
Alias ”Kelly” and “Roy,” allegedly members of the Mokong Group, were killed in the encounter.
The Mokong Group is said to be involved in gunrunning, robbery, kindap-for-ransom and illegal drug trafficking in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces, according to police.
According to Col. Villaflor Bannawagan of the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group said they set up a checkpoint after receiving a report that the dead men would hold a hold-up in the area.
A pistol, sub-machine gun, and ammunition were recovered at the crime scene
