CUNEO, ITALY - Despite the pandemic, some Filipino businessmen continue to grow grapes and hazelnuts as businesses in Italy.

Adela Tirado and her Italian husband have been managing a ten -hectare farm in Cuneo, Italy for several years.

According to Tirado, they supply grapes to wine makers and hazelnuts for chocolate makers. Despite the pandemic, work on planting and harvesting grapes and hazelnuts did not stop.

On a farm in Perletto, one of the towns of Cuneo, Italy, they also produce wines that are famous around the world.

And because the pandemic did not affect livelihoods in Italy, Tirado was able to help the family in the Philippines who are now in greater need of help.

“Until now we have continued to work on the farm, now we have just finished the harvest, Thank God. Right now, I don’t buy what I don’t need. Instead, I just give it to them. To help them buy. of food, ” story by Tirado, Pinay Farm owner in Italy.

Next to Tirado’s farm is the vineyard of another Filipino businesswoman, Maryflor Felisilda, a native of South Cotabato.

Due to the pandemic, his agri-tourism or farm restaurant closed and only now reopened.

“Thank God, my agri-tourism is open again, tourists from Germany and Switzerland are coming again,” said Felisilda, vineyard owner.

Alvelyn Cadiong, a Filipina farmer from Davao del Norte, also has an extensive vineyard and hazelnuts. According to him, the pandemic had little effect on them even though the price of fruit dropped.

“Here on the other farm, you can’t feel the pandemic, because the harvest will continue, but the price of fruits like grapes will go down,” Cadiong, vineyard owner.

The grapes of Cuneo and other places in Italy are made raw material in the manufacture of famous wines around the world.

The Wine Tasting Fair is held in Asti, Italy which is held annually, where tourists visit. It features red and white wines products from Italy. Just stalled last year due to a lockdown carried out due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Those who want to attend the wine fair from October 1 to October 3 can still chase.

Filipinos who have a farming business in Italy have learned a lot now that there is still a pandemic.

Even though the cycle of the world seems to have stopped, they still have to work hard for their farm, their business and the remittance to their family in the Philippines.
