MANILA — Viral band Tothapi expressed their gratitude to Regine Velasquez for paving the way for their guesting on “ASAP Natin ‘To,” as well as helping further their reach.
Tothapi performed on the Sunday staple last January 7.
“We want to tell Ma’am Reg, because that’s why, isn’t it, she’s already there [sa taas]. who are we We can only eat hard,” said Kobe, the band’s frontman. “It’s like humble beginnings. It was just a simple video that was reposted by us, an accomplished artist is supporting us.”
According to Velasquez, she discovered the group on TikTok.
“Their song ‘Celeste’ has gone viral,” Velasquez said on “ASAP Natin ‘To” last week. “These are great.”
As of this writing, the song “Celeste” has surpassed the five million mark on Spotify.
“Celeste is the name of our late grandmother who took care of us. A little background in songwriting, the song was finished, no title,” Kobe recalled. “We released the song, I almost thought about it [na] nice title [ay] Celeste.”
“Because apart from the late grandmother’s name, [ang] definition, it means heavenly and eternal companion,” he added. “In the next life, if there is one, I will beg [na] I wish I could still meet you.”
Kobe also expressed his gratitude to netizens, including other artists, who shared their content on social media platforms as it helped propel their music.
“It’s just humble beginnings, a simple video in our yard,” he said. “By sharing, many more will be discovered like us. More blessings to him as well, because many more will be helped like us.”
Kobe explained that “Tothapi” — which is a play on the phrase “happy thoughts” — draws their joy and inspiration from the feedback of their listeners.
“[Ang] our source [ay] stories sent by those who listen to us. Own interpretations of the songs we make,” he said.
Their guesting on “ASAP Natin ‘To” is also among their “happy thoughts,” Kobe said. “We love it [ang] this is an opportunity to showcase our songs,” he added.
